Claudia Emmons | Erie, Illinois | I used to live in DeKalb about 1 mile from that Hellish "facility."We had a farm at 16468 S.1st.St.We were doing Thoroughbred rescues for a groom at Crownsway Farm in Plato Center. We placed 16 horses for her that would otherwise have been put down or sold to a killer.During the time we lived there, they had 2 occasions when horses escaped from Cavel. The second time they got out, we were mentioned in local gossip as maybe being involved. We weren't,but if we had been, those horses would never have been caught by them again. One of the happiest days of my life was when that place burned down.May it burn AGAIN!Sincerely,Claudia Emmons and Gene Mioletti

Laura Bruhjell | Calgary, Alberta | I don't know what to say as I sit here in front of my computer with tears streaming down my face, but it nearly kills me to think of the countless beautiful creatures who have left this world in such a barbaric and inhumane way. We have to stop this. If I could change one thing in this world it would be equine slaughter without a doubt. No creature deserves to die that way, let alone one so beautiful and sentsitive and genetle as a horse. As people, we have a choice. Horses do not. So please let us choose to remove this horrifying, murderous practice from our world and give these animals the respect and care that they deserve. Until that blessed day comes, let us pray that God will ease their suffering and take them to a better place. I don't mean to sound like some kind of religious quack, but I believe that there is a God who loves his creation, and I trust that he will take care of them all. I feel as though every one lives in my heart, in everyone's heart, and so it is our duty to make things change and make horse slaughter history, never to be repeated.
Here's to them all, their souls burning with the flame of this candle... forever.

Alysha | Newbrook, Alberta, Canada | Remember the beautiful horse that lost there lives by being only just an animal. But horse are not just any animal we don't just slaughter them because they are too wild or old or to ugly or too bold, for these animals can all be helped or if not we can put them to sleep. But why are there people in the world that only ever see the outside of a horse and never ever see the inside of one because they are too blind or full of them self to see the beautiful animal that it is. So please STOP the slaughter, horses don't deserve to die, God made them for a purpose a reason so we can enjoy them and love them until the last days of time. GOD PLEASE, PEOPLE PLEASE STOP THE SLAUGHTER. Lest We Forget.

Cheryl | Silver Spring, MD | No horse willingly gives up his or her life to end up on someone's plate. Indeed, neither do the other animals who are exploited for food. Hopefully, the same compassion felt for these horses, who have met such a tragic end, will be extended to the other animals who are exploited for food -- animals who have the same capacity to suffer, and who have just as much individuality and personality, as our beloved companions. Slaughter is no less terrible for cows, pigs, chickens, turkeys, sheep, goats, rabbits, ducks,… There is no such thing as "humane slaughter" -- for ANY animal. Our society prioritizes animals based on our attachments to them. However, when it comes to suffering, there is no real difference between those animals people eat and those we view as companions. The difference is in our attitude towards them. Fight the good fight on behalf of ALL who suffer. Choose compassion over killing. Abolish slaughter.

I have a Mustang who was abused and rehomed several times. The person I got her from was ready to "shoot her", because she couldn't handle her. She is about 7 years old and has been with me for almost 2 years now. She is a wonderful mare and all she needed was someone to "listen" to her and gain her trust. My daughter can ride her bareback with just a rope on her halter! She nickers to us every day. We love her ways and respect them. We don't try to change her, only meet her half way. Is there anyone near the Orland Park area that would like to join in creating a lobbying effort please contact me. Each day more will be slaughtered until we contact our Legislators and force them to change the law. We need to have our highways filled with billboards opposing horse slaughter. Each time I read an article about a horse being saved, I know that there are others that were not so fortunate. Let's pass this on to all our friends and families. I would like to thank all the rescue organizations all over the country for their continued efforts. Each time I think about this, I feel their pain. Let's hold the Legislators feet to the fire. If you can't go to Washington, call their offices and make appointments to see them. They represent the constituents and not their self interests.

Keltia | Melbourne, Victoria Australia | I have seen the wild Brumbies run… on a clear crisp morn. I have heard the thunder of their hooves… across the mountain plains. I have felt their call… at the going down of the sun. I have watched in horror and seen them fall …shot down… from above by an untrained eye. A single bullet… did not do the trick, for the Brumby is agile and quick. Culling was the term used to sanction...maim and murder was more the action. Today I do not see the brumbies where they once run. I do not hear or feel their call. All I have of them is the pain inside, as I watched helplessly as they died. Here in Australia, the Brumby is the horse of the wild, myth and legend. Something to be held treasured and held in awe.

Wolvercat2004 | Buffalo, N.Y. | I had a dream of horses; high on a ridge - in a race with the wind. Upon the back of the leader of this wild-horse pack, I rode, feeling a freedom I'd never hope to know by myself. Both as one spirit we flew across the hills towards a waning sunset - as it faded light in on itself. We rode on and on, Leaving the rest of the wild herd of horses behind us; we were both now unchained from our individual sorrows & woes - now flying without care as we did bode. No noise, save for the sound our thunderous hoves, no words need spoken - to cloud our minds - only the sounds of peace flowing within each of us was heard - yea I say shared; as we furiously galloped across the earthly realm - as fast as we dared. Yea as I said, we were as one - as it should be...till the shot rang out & ended our dream. It sent us both reeling - crashing hard to the dirt. We seemed to tumble end over end - for hours, tho it were but just one awful moment in time. We both lay there - hurt and in pain - red blood strewn from our veins. Angels weeped - with some turning their backs in distain. The bullet had slamed its teeth ever so deep into my steeds right side - creening mercilessly to strike his proud heart. Its horrid trek of pain had a mere second before rended my flesh the same, for the bullet had 1st hit my leg in spiteful delight - it would spare no one this night; its demonic flight ripping thru my flesh clear to the bone - yea verily, no one would be spared this night. Then not satisfied with me it continued its bolt - ricocetting onto its intended real target... seeing a pure heart in its sight, And so it now rested within that nobility imbued in all wild horses. Its damage complete - its work now done. Being a man I knew there was nothing left for us to do but lay there sprawled out on blood-soaked ground, while we waited for the end. Two hearts that had beat as one - now were but one broken in spirit and one broken of life... how sad no one would be spared. We looked into each others eyes - his asked mine -"Why?" "Why did they shoot us?" "We'd done nothing wrong, this just isn't fair." My eyes just teared for I had no real answer for him - only pain-ridden fear to add to his own did my eyes thusly bare. I could hear the souless slaughter house's henchmen coming near - so I just whispered to him, "Close your eyes Wildsong - soon we'll both be free again - heaven holds a place for you and me this dusk - and in this you must trust, maybe someday when they've learned - we shall return & race the wind once more - beating as one heart, as we did before." With that said, he closed his his sullen eyes, with fear clutching him & I; as they approched us - a cheer on they're lips, one patting the other on the back for such good marksmanship. The man raised his High powered gun & aimed at Wildsongs head - a second shot rang out... my heart shattered & deaths laughter sang out upon the wind its hollowed ehco punctuating this wrong. Without looking to him, I knew I could't stay either - not without my wild friend with whom to race the winds. So I grabbed the closest gun from the closest deathdealer's hands & put the barrow to my head - sending my spirit to my wind-racer friend; Leaving by the wayside perplexed souless men. How would they explain my death - to the law of the land?! I laughed down upon them from above... and later that year, Wildsong & I would watch those men hang - they were led to slaughter upon wooden gallows - for the law didn't believe them that it was an unfortunate thing...after all it is what 'slaughters are paid to do - a horse - a man - what differance were they - they were only 2 and it is what slaughters do after all in the end. How sad I thought as we viewed from the clouds - those men just didn't see - with their slaughtering ways, it was only a matter of time before they'd be next on the list. Evil never goes unpunished...so say we all, whom cherish the ones - who race with the wind. (Stop the killing of noble 'wind-racers'people...lest you be the next on the list - to be written off by evils left hand]. ~Wolvercat2004

The fact that so many are suffering and dying at the hands of those who have no love or respect for these magnificent and noble creatures breaks my heart.
